The fear of the new vulnerabilities discovered on the processors increases, especially since it was reported that Intel is not the unique producer subject to this type of attacks.
We are talking about Meltdown and Spectre, two vulnerabilities identified by the codes CVE-2017-5754, CVE-2017-5715 and CVE-2017-5753.
Now new information is leaking, which makes us understand how the scope of these two vulnerabilities is much wider and also affects the processors of other manufacturers.
More precisely, the Spectre vulnerability seems to affect also AMD and ARM processors. This means that, in addition to traditional systems (PC Desktop, Server, etc.), the risk also affects mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, and so on …).
Furthermore, the predominant opinion among the designers and developers of the affected processors is that remedying these two vulnerabilities is not an easy task.
Therefore, it will be necessary to work hard to avoid that any patches introduce new problems and errors and / or negatively affect the overall performance of the CPUs.
And in the meantime?
Well, there is not much that ordinary users can do, aside from hoping that the CPU manufacturers will soon develop a solution to solve the problem and make Meltdown and Specter not usable by cyber criminals.
